Everyday use

How do I update CrownOS?

Run a full system upgrade with pacman to get the latest packages and fixes.

Updated

CrownOS is a rolling release. Run a full upgrade from a terminal to update every package, including the kernel and the desktop:

sudo pacman -Syu

Update safely

  1. Save your work

Close apps with unsaved documents. Some updates restart desktop services.

  2. Run the upgrade

Run sudo pacman -Syu and review the list of packages before you confirm.

  3. Restart if the kernel changed

If linux-cachyos was updated, restart so the new kernel is loaded.

Common questions

How often should I update?

Once a week is a good rhythm. Waiting months makes each upgrade larger and harder to review.

An update failed partway through. What now?

Run sudo pacman -Syu again. pacman resumes from the packages that were not installed. If it reports file conflicts, read the message carefully before forcing anything.
